HP OFFERS STOREVIRTUAL VIRTUAL STORAGE APPLIANCE SOFTWARE FOR FREE

It claims to offer small and midsize business customers with access to over Exabyte of VSA.
HP has released the HP StoreVirtual Virtual Storage Appliance (VSA) software, which is available free of cost with the HP ProLiant Generation 8 (Gen8) servers.
The move is part of the company's strategy to offer small and midsize business (SMB) customers with access to over Exabyte of VSA storage during the next 12 months.
According to the company, budget, staff and space constraints stop SMBs from purchasing and managing the storage hardware that would help in gaining benefits, while the cost of storage is considered to be challenging for adopting server virtualisation.
HP Storage senior vice president and general manager David Scott said to unlock the full benefits of server virtualisation in the most space or budget constrained environments need a converged approach to shared storage that supports their virtualised workloads.
"HP is the only storage provider that delivers powerful, efficient servers combined with free software-defined storage to help our customers maximise server virtualisation ROI, even with a limited budget," Scott added.
HP StoreVirtual VSA combined with the HP ProLiant servers are claimed to support software-defined data centre deployments to increase server virtualisation benefits.
The integration of the two technologies also reduced costs of deploying shared storage by 80% compared with traditional storage arrays, simplify deployment and improve flexibility with either VMware or Microsoft hypervisor environments and offer improved agility.
Additionally, the integrated system decreases risk by making data highly available through clustering and built-in disaster recovery including VMware Metro Storage Cluster support.
